Monitoring Water Quality After a Sewer Main Line Break in Cochrane

On Saturday evening, Wheatland County was made aware that a sewer main line break in the Town of Cochrane had caused an overland sewage discharge affecting the Bow River upstream of the County. Alberta Environment and Protected Areas, as well as neighboring municipalities, have been informed and are monitoring the situation.⁣

Although this incident occurred far upstream of any County water systems, our Utilities team is diligently monitoring water quality within Wheatland County and assessing any potential impacts on communities upstream. As of Monday morning, there has been no observed change in water quality at the Speargrass Water Treatment Plant. Wheatland County’s water remains safe to drink.
