Property Tax Payment Deadline

Wheatland County would like to remind residents that property tax payments are due June 30, 2019! A 5% penalty will be applied to unpaid balances on July 1 and December 1, 2019.
How can you pay your taxes?
  • You can pay in person

Payments can be made with money orders, cheques, cash, or debit (credit cards are not accepted for tax payments) at our administration building.

Avoid last minute line–ups and late payment penalties by bringing a cheque to our administration office today, post-dated on or before the due date.

  • 24 hour drop-box

The drop-box is located at the main doors of our administration building.

Deposits must be made prior to midnight of the due date to meet the payment deadline. Please seal your payment and remittance slip in an envelope prior to depositing and please do not leave cash.

  • Mail

The effective date of mailed payments received after the due date will be the date of the Canada Post postmark.

The Canada Post postmark must be dated on or before the due date to avoid late payment penalties. If the Canada Post postmark is absent or illegible, the effective date of payment will be the date received. The imprint of a postage meter is not accepted as proof of the mail date.

Payments in U.S. funds: payments may be made in U.S. funds, however, the exchange rate on the date of deposit will apply. If the payment is insufficient due to the fluctuation of the exchange rate or financial institution collection fees, penalties will apply to any unpaid tax. To avoid processing delays or short-payments, please make payments using Canadian funds.

  • Online banking

Tax payments can be made through most banking institutions. Know your bank's policies regarding the effective date of payment. It’s important to pay at least three business days prior to the property tax payment due date to meet the payment deadline and avoid a late payment penalty as it may take several days for the financial institution to process your payment.

    1. Add Wheatland County Property Tax as a payee to your bank account’s bill payment profile
Search “Wheat" or "Wheatland” and select the payee name closest to “Wheatland (County) Tax” or “Wheatland Property Tax". Can’t find Wheatland property tax as a payee or are unsure which payee to select? Contact your bank for more information.

    2. Add account number
The account number is the roll number (up to 9-digits) on your property tax bill entered without spaces or dashes. More than one property tax bill? Register each roll number and make payment on each tax bill separately. Failure to remit payment on each roll number separately may result in late payment penalties. Make sure the property tax account number registered in your bank’s bill payment profile matches the 4 to 9-digit property tax roll number shown on your most recent tax bill or statement. If an invalid roll number is entered, your payment may not be applied to your tax account.

    3. Complete the payment
Make your property tax payment online following your bank’s instructions. Keep your receipt as proof of the date and time of payment.
