National Hospice Palliative Care Week 2023
As National Hospice Palliative Care Week commences, Wheatland County proudly declares its support of the #PalliativeCareEverywhere campaign, a commitment to ensure that Canadians with life-limiting illnesses receive the dignified and compassionate care they deserve. In this spirit, we extend our heartfelt appreciation to the Wheatland & Area Hospice Society for their unwavering dedication in providing exceptional palliative care to our community. Their efforts have truly made a difference in the lives of those who are facing difficult times.
This year, CHPCA’s #NHPCW campaign focuses on #PalliativeCareEverywhere to highlight the need for accessible care in every postal code. It also reminds us that quality palliative care does not only live in a hospice or inside four walls – it is built and woven throughout the community.
Palliative care is person-centered care. That means, in part, that wherever there is a person with a life-limiting illness – palliative care can be provided. If someone is facing significant health-related suffering because of a life-limiting illness, palliative care can help regardless of the setting of care, regardless of their illness or prognosis, regardless of their postal code.
Comprehensive and quality palliative care provides support for every aspect of someone’s life that is impacted by illness. This includes respite for caregivers and loved ones, mental health and spiritual support, and ensuring the best quality of life. It is holistic care to support mind, body, soul, and family when and where they need it most.
Every family navigating the challenges that arise when a loved one is diagnosed with a life-limiting illness deserves the best quality of care and support that we can offer. In hospice, at home, in long term care, in hospital – there are no limits to where someone can receive palliative care to meet their needs.
How will you support compassion, dignity, and care in your community this National Hospice Palliative Care Week? Do your part to ensure that across the country, there is Palliative Care Everywhere!
