Energy District and Solar Amendments
The Public Hearings for Bylaw 2019-04 and 2019-05 are set for May 7th at 9 a.m. in the Wheatland County Council Chambers.
- Bylaw 2018-04 is proposing a land use District called the Energy District. This proposed district is intended to address large scale commercial and industrial solar facilities and wind turbine farms (WECS). Setbacks and site specific regulations have been developed that pertain to these large scale developments.
If you are a developer and you intend to propose a large scale wind or solar facility, with approvals from the AUC, the proposed amendments in Bylaw 2019-04 will apply.
You can view the proposed district here.
- Bylaw 2019-05 pertains to small scale and personal use of solar panels and wind turbines/tower development. The amendments are intended to provide more guidance, clarity and site specific regulations for their development on structures and property.
As a resident and landowner if you intend to install personal solar panels on any of your buildings, structures or property (within the parameters of the amendments) you will be required to follow the provisions drafted and proposed in Bylaw 2019-05.
You can view the amendments here.
If these amendments are approved by Council through third and final reading of the respective bylaw, the textual amendments and new district will be added to the Land Use Bylaw 2016-01 and will be required to be complied with by all residents and developers in the County.
