Funding for the Crowfoot Creek Watershed

Last chance for free fencing and watering systems!

Wheatland County, and the Western Irrigation District partnered to apply for funding from Alberta Environment for the Watershed Resiliency and Restoration Program, which includes funding for fencing and offsite watering systems. The purpose of this program is to improve and restore the riparian lands adjacent to the Crowfoot Creek and any of its tributaries by as-sisting producers with the cost of off site watering systems and fencing. The benefits of offsite watering systems include: increased forage production, increased livestock weight gains, reduced contamination of water sources with sediment and fecal matter, and reduced vulnerability during periods of drought and flood.

Producers adjacent to any drainage within the watershed may be eligible for this funding.

Cost share: 100%
funding will be distributed on a first-come-first-serve basis

Eligible Items:

  • Riparian fencing of the Crowfoot Creek and its tributaries (does not have to be exclusion fencing)
  • Riparian Exclusion Fencing
  • Livestock Off-Site Watering System
  • Livestock waterers for new utilization of existing water sources (i.e. dugouts, wells etc.)
This funding is only available until the end of August 2019.
