Town of Drumheller and Wheatland County IDP Updates
What is an Intermunicipal Development Plan (IDP)?
The purpose of an IDP is to minimize land use and development conflicts, provide opportunities for collaboration and communication, and allow for the resolution of any conflicts that may arise.
Why are the Town of Drumheller and Wheatland County developing an IDP?
Recent changes to the Municipal Government Act have mandated that municipalities sharing a common boundary must develop an Intermunicipal Development Plan in order to foster a collaborative planning approach for these lands. These plans must be in place by April 1, 2020.
Intermunicipal Development Plans must promote consultation and cooperation between the participating municipalities regarding planning matters of joint interest within a defined planning area. They also provide a framework for processing development proposals, subdivision applications or concerns within this defined area.
How can I participate in the development of the IDP?
More information will be made available here as progress continues with the IDP development.
Comments or questions regarding this process and the Intermunicipal Development Plan itself can be brought to the upcoming Open House at the Badlands Community Facility on Wednesday, November 6, 2019. There will be two presentations at 5:30pm and 6:30 pm.
