Media Release – Fire Prevention Week October 5-11, 2025

The theme for Fire Prevention Week 2025, is “Charge into Fire Safety™: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home”

This year’s campaign highlights the safe use of lithium-ion batteries, which are commonly found in everyday devices such as cell phones, laptops, e-scooters, and power tools. The NFPA emphasizes three key safety actions:

  • BUY batteries and devices from reputable sources.
  • CHARGE batteries correctly, and never leave them charging unattended.
  • RECYCLE used or damaged batteries responsibly at approved collection sites.

In addition to battery safety, Wheatland County Fire Services is also focusing on the importance of carbon monoxide detectors. Thanks to sponsorship from Ember and Nutrien, free detectors are available to Wheatland County residents.

Did you know?

  • Carbon monoxide detectors should be replaced every 5–7 years.
  • Smoke detectors expire after 10 years.
  • At minimum, every home should have a carbon monoxide detector near sleeping areas and smoke detectors in every bedroom.

During Fire Prevention Week, local fire departments will be visiting homes and offering free carbon monoxide detectors. Residents can also stop by the County office during Fire Prevention Week to pick one up.
