Strathmore RCMP warning residents about paving scams
Strathmore, Alta. – Strathmore RCMP is warning residents about companies operating asphalt paving scams in the area.
These companies typically approach homeowners through door-to-door contact, offering paving services at what appear to be low or discounted rates. In many cases, they request payment upfront. After work begins, or sometimes before it is completed, property owners may be asked to pay more than the original quoted price.
Individuals involved in these scams often provide little verifiable information about their identity and may operate unmarked or nondescript vehicles. In some instances, the companies may appear legitimate, using professional-looking logos or branding.
A common tactic involves contractors claiming they have leftover asphalt from previous jobs and offering a reduced price to use the excess material. However, the product used is often substandard, believed to be recycled asphalt or a gravel-oil mixture that lacks durability. As a result, the work may deteriorate quickly once driven on or remain incomplete if additional payment demands are not met.
The Strathmore RCMP recommends exercising caution when retaining contractor services. Keep the following tips in mind to avoid falling victim to a scam:

Strathmore RCMP promote equipment security during National Farm Safety Week (March 14–20)
Strathmore, Alta. – In recognition of National Farm Safety Week, March 14 to 20, the Strathmore RCMP are encouraging rural residents and agricultural operators to take proactive steps to secure machinery, tools, fuel, and outbuildings as preparations begin for the upcoming farming season.
As producers begin equipment maintenance, field preparation, and spring planning, farmyards may see increased activity. At the same time, valuable machinery and tools may be left accessible or unattended. Rural properties can be attractive targets for theft due to their remote locations and the high value of agricultural equipment. By taking preventative measures early in the season, rural property owners can significantly reduce the risk of property-related crime and help protect their livelihood.
The Strathmore RCMP offer the following crime prevention tips:
“Implementing these suggestions and reporting suspicious activity can go a long way to prevent and deter criminal activity in our rural areas.
