Upcoming Alberta Transportation Paving Projects

Residents and motorists are advised of upcoming paving work being completed by Alberta Transportation on Highway 817 and Highway 24 this summer. Construction activity may result in temporary traffic disruptions, reduced speed limits, lane closures, and travel delays throughout the project timelines.

Highway 817

  • Anticipated Start: June 22, 2026
  • Anticipated Completion: July 31, 2026

Highway 24

  • Anticipated Start: July 3, 2026
  • Anticipated Completion: July 31, 2026

Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, slow down in construction zones, follow all posted signage, and use caution around workers and equipment to help ensure everyone’s safety.

Project timelines are approximate and may be adjusted due to weather or operational requirements.

Gleichen Playground 430 Prowse Avenue Removal 

Following recent inspections, the playground at 430 Prowse Avenue has been identified as no longer meeting safety standards due to wear, rust, and overall deterioration. Based on the recommendation of a certified playground inspector, the equipment will be decommissioned. 

Next Steps 

  • Equipment and picnic tables will be removed in Spring 2026  
  • Select materials will be reused at other County sites  
  • The area will be restored to grass
