Welder Apprentice – Student (RAP Program)

The Welder Apprentice participates in the Alberta Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP) while gaining supervised, hands-on experience in a municipal fleet maintenance environment. Working under the direction of a Journeyman Welder, the apprentice assists with the fabrication, repair, modification, and maintenance of metal equipment, vehicles, structures, and tools.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the Welder with repair and maintenance activities while learning approved repair procedures and safe work practices.
  • Learn to detect the cause of equipment failures and recommend preventative measures.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Ensure adherence to all applicable Wheatland County policies and bylaws.
  • Comply with Wheatland County safety requirements, applicable Alberta occupational health and safety legislation, and all personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Ensure work is completed in a safe manner.
  • Relate to and communicate with co-workers, management, customers and vendors sincerely, clearly, and courteously.
  • Perform tasks consistent with the position including special projects / assignments, as may be required on an ad hoc basis.
Qualifications
  • High School student enrolled in the Registered Apprenticeship Program (R.A.P.).
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta drivers’ licence.
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills.

Working Conditions:

  • Monday to Friday, as per R.A.P. requirements.

Requirements:

  • CSA approved 6” steel toed work boots are required by the successful candidate
