Position Summary:

The Waste Transfer Site Operator is responsible for monitoring the use of Wheatland County owned waste transfer sites by the public / Wheatland County citizens, and for managing the day to day operations of the site.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure all day to day operations are dealt with in a safe and effective manner and perform the following activities: greet site users, visually inspect incoming loads, reject unacceptable materials, and direct site users to place materials in appropriate designated areas.
  • Educate the public / Wheatland County citizens regarding transfer site (waste and recycling) programs, and unacceptable materials.
  • Schedule the pick-up of bins with contractors.
  • Perform general maintenance and housekeeping duties of the site.
  • Communicate with the Waste Transfer Site Coordinator on a regular basis.
  • Work with the Waste Transfer Site Coordinator regarding site, contractor, and / or customer issues, concerns, and / or inquiries.
  • Ensure adherence to all applicable Wheatland County policies and bylaws.
  • Ensure compliance with OH&S including attendance at safety meetings, being properly trained in OH&S related topics, and ensuring work is completed in a safe manner.
  • Appropriately, and in a timely manner complete administrative tasks (e.g., complete daily vehicle count sheets and other forms).
  • Relate to and communicate with co-workers, management, County citizens / public, and contractors sincerely, clearly, tactfully, promptly and courteously; respond to inquiries and complaints promptly and professionally.
  • Perform tasks, consistent with the position, including special projects / assignments, as may be required on an ad hoc basis.
Qualifications
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta drivers’ licence
  • Related experience; knowledge of recycling and waste disposal rules
  • Valid First Aid certificate
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with other team members, the public / Wheatland County citizens, contractors, etc.
Working Conditions
  • Part time position; works prescheduled days and hours; 8 hours / day; 9:00 am-5:00 pm; weekend shifts required and evenings may be required
  • Occasional overtime may be required
