Agricultural Service Board Scholarship Program

Wheatland County’s Agricultural Service Board is now accepting applications for the 2026 ASB Scholarship Program.

This scholarship supports students residing in Wheatland County who are pursuing post-secondary studies in an agricultural or environmental field. Successful applicants may receive between $500 and $2,500, depending on the number of eligible applications received.

Applicants must be high school graduates within the last three years and must provide required supporting documents, including transcripts, a letter of acceptance, a short essay, and a completed consent form.

The application deadline is September 15, 2026. Late applications will not be accepted.

Traffic Notice – Township Road 222⁣⁣

Township Road 222, between Highway 24 and Range Road 262, will be reduced to single-lane traffic on July 20, weather permitting, for road work.

⁣⁣Access for emergency vehicles will remain available throughout the duration of the work.⁣⁣Please follow all posted signage, obey speed limits, and use caution when travelling through the area.⁣⁣

Road Closure Notice: RR 270

RR 270 from TWP 221 south to TWP 220 will be closed to through traffic from July 20 to mid-August 2026 for road reconstruction.

Detour routes will be in effect along RR 264. Access to the Nutrien site and access for emergency vehicles will remain available throughout the duration of the work.

Please follow all posted signage and speed limits in the area. Thank you for your patience as this work is completed.

Muirfield Blvd. Partial Closure

Please be advised that a single lane closure will be in effect on Muirfield Boulevard starting near the entrance to the Mercantile Building beginning Tuesday, July 14, 2026.

Traffic will be alternating through this area, and the traffic accommodation is expected to remain in place for approximately three weeks.

Motorists are asked to use caution, follow all posted signage, and expect minor delays while work is underway.

Strychnine Lottery Draw

Wheatland County has received a limited quantity of 2% Liquid Strychnine and will be conducting a lottery draw for eligible producers to fairly distribute the product currently available in stock.

Due to limited supply, individuals whose names are drawn in the lottery will be eligible to receive up to 12 250mL bottles of 2% liquid strychnine during the 2026 product distribution cycle.

How to enter the lottery draw:
To be entered into the lottery draw, producers must complete the online stewardship training through the Strychnine Stewardship Training for Producers program.

After completing the training, producers must email a copy of their certificate to: agandenv@wheatlandcounty.ca

If you have already completed the course, you must still submit your certificate by email to be entered into the draw for this shipment.

Please note: If you do not email your certificate, your name will not be entered into the draw.

Application deadline:
Applications will be accepted from now until 8:00 a.m. on Monday, July 20, 2026.
Names will be drawn after the deadline, and successful producers will be contacted directly with pickup dates and times.

Looking ahead to 2027:
Wheatland County will continue bringing in 2% Liquid Strychnine inventory throughout the fall and winter in preparation for 2027 sales opening on February 1, 2027.

At this time, the 2027 sales process is anticipated to operate on a first-come, first-served basis.

Road Closure Notice RR 243A

Western Irrigation District will be closing Range Road 243A for construction from July 13 to July 14.

Please use alternate routes and plan for possible delays.
